Simple Weather Indicator is a suitably named simple weather indicator for Ubuntu desktops.
We wrote about this ‘no frills’ weather applet a couple of times last year so some of you may remember it. In essence the app serves up a concise weather overview for your current (or any configured) location.
Earlier this month the applet received an update that adds in a few more frills. More than just temperature, the indicator now divvies up the following meteorological data, all of it a single click away:
- Weather conditions summary
- Humidity
- Wind speed (in km/h)
- Cloudiness
- Weather pressure
- Weather visibility
In addition to that, the app now uses a new, “in-house” open source Weather API called Eris. This is described by Simple Weather Indicator’s developers being ‘highly scalable’ and is said to be ‘more accurate than the old [API]’.
Want to install it on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS or later? You can, it even has its own PPA:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kasra-mp/ubuntu-indicator-weather
sudo apt update && sudo apt install indicator-weather
If you don’t want to add the PPA you can download an installer that is suitable for most Ubuntu and Ubuntu-based distributions. Where? From the Ubuntu Indicator Weather Github page of course!
