It’s six years to the day since we last asked you whether you use 32-bit Ubuntu or 64-bit Ubuntu.
Almost 5,000 readers voted in that poll back in 2010, with 64-bit Ubuntu nudging a narrow lead of 52% to 32-bit users’ 47%.
In the years since we held that poll we’ve witnessed mammoth shifts in support for and prevalence of the 64-bit architecture.
In 2013 the 64-bit version of Ubuntu became the default recommended download on the Ubuntu website.
A recent discussion on the Ubuntu mailing list enquired whether Ubuntu should drop 32-bit images altogether!
And it’s not just major operating systems and Linux distributions that are increasingly turning 64-bit only. Google Chrome axed support for 32-bit Linux users at the start of the year, and some newer software, like Skype for Linux (Alpha), is only distributed in 64-bit builds.
Six years is a veritable eon in technology so I feel the time was right to revisit the question and find out which architecture you’re running these days.
