Ring a ding-ding: see what Skype announced in this post.
skype linux exciting announcement
But what could it be?

Skype say “exciting news for Linux users” will be announced this coming Wednesday, July 13.

“There’s something interesting coming for Linux users,” the company teases on its social media accounts and support forum.

Exactly what? Well, that remains to be seen.

The announcement is to be made on the Skype Community discussion board in the form of a Q&A session on 13th July 2016 at 7am PST / 3pm GMT.

Skype For Linux: Abandonware?

Its desktop client is, to put it mildly, practically abandonware; Skype for Linux was last updated two years ago.

It has a UI pulled from mid-2000s AIM, lacks many of the service’s core new features (like group video calling) and remains a 32-bit only application.

Could we see an all-new desktop version of the app? A Flatpak or Snap of Skype? Or will this announcement be Linux support for Skype for Web (as our sister site OMG! Chrome! reported on last week)?

What are your theories?
