Ready for the Vervet?

Barely 24 hours after the Utopic Unicorn bolted from the stable stable, Ubuntu 15.04 has opened for development.

The first few weeks of every development cycle is spent syncing over key development packages from upstream, and laying the foundations for infrastructure changes to come.

Then the fun comes.

What to Expect

Ubuntu 15.04 ‘Vivid Vervet’ should prove to be a more notable release than its equine predecessor, not least because of planned re-plumbing as the OS transitions to Systemd.

It may also prove to be a vivid milestone for fans of the Mir and Unity 8 desktop efforts. Both are widely expected to be made available for more readily available testing ahead of their planned promotion to default status in April 2016 and the release of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

But if you’re planning to  jump ship — or in this case animal mascot — be aware that package syncing aside, precious little else has changed. There’s precious little reason for anyone but core Ubuntu developers to upgrade this early.
