pValve has announced that a beta of Portal 2 is now available on Steam for Linux, marking the first time that the game has been available on the platform.

To access it, you’ll need to opt into the beta programme for Portal 2 by right-clicking on it in your Steam Library (assuming you own it, of course), selecting ‘Properties’ and following the beta prompts. After doing this the entire 6.6GB file will be available for you to grab.

Remember that as this is a beta and not a stable release you should expect to encounter bugs and crashes. A list of issues currently known to be affecting the game on Linux can be found on GitHub, where you can also add any quirks you encounter.

With all that out of the way, you can see a trailer for the award-winning Portal 2, first released on Windows back in 2011, below.
