Canonical have lowered the pledge price needed to secure an Ubuntu Edge handset.

After all 5000 of their ‘one day only’ offer of an Ubuntu Edge at $600 sold out the next run up for backers wanting to nab a handset was $830.

But, as of today, there are three lower-priced pledge levels starting from $625:

  • $625 (1250 available)
  • $675 (1250 available)
  • $725 (1250 available)

A further set of perks will be added during the course of the campaign. These will include prices at $780, $790, $800, $810 & $820.

These ‘perks’ all offer the same reward of an Ubuntu Edge smartphone and a place on the Ubuntu Edge founders page. The price also includes shipping within the US and the UK.

Canonical introduced a $1400 pledge tier, similar to the above but promising two devices, yesterday.

Ubuntu Edge is expected to be shipped to backers in May 2014.

$830 Pledgers

Backed the device at $830? Coinciding with these new pledge levels the ‘sold’ count of the $830 perk has been reset to zero.  What’s going on?

Canonical explain:

“Hundreds of you have already contributed $830 for an Ubuntu Edge, but don’t worry. We’ll refund the difference at the end of the campaign so you won’t lose out. We’ll contact you all directly with more information.
