“I want to minimise apps to the Unity launcher by clicking on them.“

Well the patched version of Unity that lets you do just that is now available to install in Ubuntu 11.10.

The patch was previously only available for users of Ubuntu 12.04 Beta.

Installing

The following PPA needs to be added to your ‘Software Sources’ in order to add the functionality.

  • sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ojno/unity-minimize-on-click
  • sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

After adding run the Update Manager and proceed to Upgrade Unity. After this, log out and then back in for the ‘change’ to take effect.

As with all third party hacks, this ‘patch’ is not supported by Ubuntu or Canonical.
