Four user-created sound themes have been shortlisted with a view to shipping as default in Ubuntu 12.04.
It’s now up to you which of the four goes on to receive additional development. Thoughts, critique and opinion are being sought on the entrants via a survey. The findings of the survey will decide the winning soundscape to be honed for potential inclusion in Precise.
Ubuntu has used the same login sound since Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft.
Interestingly, Ubuntu 12.04 development builds currently ship with the login sound turned off – a change 73% of OMG! Ubuntu! readers were pleased to see implemented. It’s unclear at this stage whether any new login chime would be enabled by default.
