It may have only just got a name, but work on April’s release of Ubuntu 12.04 is already underway.

The proximity area has been extended to full height, and you can middle click the thumb to jump to the current position.
But here comes the best part: with maximized apps, since Fitts law is respected, you can literally “throw” the mouse to the right edge, and click to start dragging from†any†position, regardless of the real scrollbar placement.
This unique design keeps reducing visual clutter while simplifying basic operations with an innovative approach.
