Calling all grammar nazis and typo hunters: put your fingers where your gripes are, and go up against the editors of OMG! Ubuntu! in time wasting typing game OMG! Words!.
The game was created by the talented folks at Sigmoid, as a demonstration of the terrific 2D LÖVE game engine.
As a cheesy, mildly addictive, if somewhat immature game, OMG! Words! makes a solid boredom buster – and it’s easy to play.
If you have an internet connection, OMG! Words! pulls in a list of words from our recent posts for you to battle against (if you don’t have an internet connection, it just uses magic).
Words ‘rain’ down (at increasing rates of difficulty) for you to ‘type’. The aim is to type as many words correctly as possible, as fast as possible, before they reach the bottom – or you drop too many and it’ll be game over.
The longer you play the harder it gets. Just like making it to level 10 of Tetris, things get frantic, and words fall faster and faster.
Benjamin is also on hand, hurling insults at you if you drop the pace or misspell a word. And look out for me (Joey).
Note: we, Ohso, can not be held responsible or liability for any repetitive strain injuries which result from you playing with us.* However, we certainly will enjoy it**.
To install the latest update to OMG! Words on Ubuntu 9.10, 10.04 LTS, 10.10 or the upcoming 11.04, first add Sigmoid developer Bart’s personal package archive (PPA) for the LOVE engine, then fellow dev Tommy Brunn’s PPA which contains the game itself.
Pop open a terminal and run:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bartbes/love-stable && sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tommybrunn/omgwords
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install omgwords
Once everything downloads and installs, launch the game from the Unity launcher (or whatever app menu your desktop environment of choices uses) and take it from there!
**Creepy just levelled up.
*Sounded creeper than it should.
