Toshiba TG01 owners tired of running Windows Mobile can now swap it out with a new port of Ubuntu specifically tailored for the device.

Although the project is still in Alpha it already supports some of the more ‘tricky’ features, such as the touchscreen, handset vibration and 3G, all out of the box. Whilst full phone functionality shouldn’t be expected from projects such as this (Ubuntu is not a mobile OS after-all) the developer does describe the build as ‘functional’.

As demoed in the video below, it runs far better than one might expect, despite the rather cramped appearance of the netbook launcher..
