My favourite music player, Banshee, didn’t recognize my Android phone ‘out of the box’, despite other Ubuntu apps such as Shotwell and Nautilus, doing so.

If you’re in the same position you’ll want to try this crazy-simple solution that pals Banshee and your handset up in no-time: –

  • Exit Banshee fully and make sure your phone is mounted.
  • Open Nautilus and head to the ‘root’ of your phones SD Card (i.e. the first level)
  • Create a blank file named ‘.is_audio_player’ (sans apostrophes)

Done.

Launch Banshee and your phone will be detected, ready for you to stuff your cell full of music using Banshee’s ace auto-sync options.
