Further to yesterday’s post on the ‘immovable Unity launcher’ I just thought I’d share this as well to help allay a few fears on an annoyance many of you have expressed issue with…

Window controls for maximised applications will, as in Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Edition (see image below), be placed in the panel. This will ‘solve’ the Auto-hiding Launcher appearing when trying to control a window bug.

How Unity panel controls look in Ubuntu 10.10

Ubuntu’s Didier Roche confirms it: –

“Indeed, as in maverick, the close/maximize/minimize button will get into the panel later in the dev cycle, so you won’t have that issue anymore.

It’s just not implemented yet. :)”

As does Mark Shuttleworth himself: –

“Maximised apps will get window controls in the panel, yes.”

I’ll once again just caution people to not get too overly excited by anything they find – or don’t find – in the first Alpha. April 2011 is still some way away yet and there is a lot of work still to do.

Thanks to Melvin (particularly for the use of ‘ OMG! Ubuntians!’ ;) )
