Shotwell 0.8 has been released with some fantastic new features for users.

First and foremost, as we first reported back in early November, Shotwell has gained video support. Users can now import them straight from their digital cameras, tag them and add them to events.

Further more these videos can be uploaded to YouTube, Flickr, Facebook, and PicasaWeb with a few clicks – all directly from Shotwell itself.

Drab desktop background? Shotwell 0.8 will put paid to that; users can now set multiple photos as a wallpaper slideshow.

Other additions, changes and fixes include ‘folder watching’ of your library directory (and auto-import of photos/images/videos placed within it), background writing of tags, ratings, etc. and the ability to ‘flag’ photos for batch operations.
