If you have ever botted into an Ubuntu desktop then the chances are you will have come across the default e-mail application ‘Evolution’. It’s a powerful e-mail tool with an impressive set of features that more than rival commercial alternatives on other platforms.

Aside from the default Mozilla’s Thunderbird is another popular choice, particularly for those with dual-boots set-ups where application familiarity often pays dividends.

Other alternatives to dedicated e-mail clients have become popular in wake of ever-on internet connections where the need for ‘local’ copies of mail is less important. We see this coming to the fore in new applications such as Postler and the use of web-apps for Gmail, etc.
