If you ever wanted to test GNOME 3 in Ubuntu 10.10 but felt left out – now’s your chance.

The Gnome-3 Testing PPA by ricotz has been available for a while but only for Natty adopters. Fear not – the Ubuntu Desktop team have have set up a PPA to give Maverick users some upstream-y love in testing elements of the desktop due in Spring 2011.

Installation

  • sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-desktop/gnome3-builds
  • sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install gnome-desktop3

There are obvious issues to upgrading to Gnome 3 – not least of which is the fact that Gnome 3 hasn’t been released. This isn’t an upgrade than can be easily reversed either so be aware of what this entails before attempting.
