Reader Cullum Saunders pinged us with an interesting concept for an intelligent, friendly ambient boot screen, which he demoes in the video below.

“It’s based on two ideas. The design teams idea for a wallpaper of light that subtly changes over time, and the idea of an OS that uses the time to greet you appropriately, giving the impression that it cares.”

I’m, personally, not sold on the colour scheme used in Cullum’s design. I’d rather see a  temperate hue used that was in keeping with the time – something along the lines of RedShift.

Nevertheless it’s a cracking idea – but with boot times becoming ever quicker one could question the need for something as elaborate as this.
