We all know the problem, the metadata in your music files isn’t perfect and it would be nice to benefit from a larger collection to compare with and get corrections from. Bringing the Utopian dream of 100% correct metadata for all a 7 mile step closer to reality.

Last.fm tried to address this in 2007 when they introduced Audio Fingerprinting in their official client and now Oliver Dufoli (of Pinta and MonoDevelop contribution fame) has started work to bring this fantastic feature to Banshee.

This work is at a very early state and still has missing bits but the code so far is available via Olivers GitHub repo.

An OMG! high five to Oliver Dufoli for announcing this work on #banshee
