Michael Forrest has posted details of an exciting new contest for Ubuntu users to take part in. Building upon the enormous success that the bi-annual wallpaper submission competition has garnered, attention has now turned to that oft-forgotten part of the desktop experience called ‘the sound theme’.

“As much as we love you The Old Ubuntu Startup Sound, it’s time to say goodbye.”

Michael has a full brief listed on his blog which, if you’re serious, you should refer to.

A reduced number of sounds are being sought, comprising of: –

  • Desktop Ready (log-in screen)
  • Desktop Login (desktop)
  • Instant Messaging
  • Email
  • Error

The soundscape should be “subtle, restrained and professional” , have “flawless production quality” and be submitted as 44.KHz 16 bit Wav. The deadline for submission is Monday 18th October 2010.
