If like many you’ve been looking for the perfect lightweight desktop twitter client then you may have come across Turpial. It’s fast, lightweight and has many of the features users look for in a twitter client.
Only problem up until now was that it was only available to install in Spanish.

Step in effie-jayx who has started packaging the latest development releases into a PPA for Ubuntu users. The latest version available in the PPA adds the holy grail of English (and many other) language support! Hurray!
Latest features
The PPA contains Turpial 1.3.2 Alpha 1 ” which sees the tweet-miester gain plenty of improvements and new features, including: –
- Secure authentication management
- Spanish, English, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Taiwanese, French translations
- Yfrog, img.ly, mobypicture and twitgoo image uploading service support.
- Spellchecking
- Support for for zi.ma and ur1.ca URL shortner services
Installation
Note: This is a development PPA â” do not expect Turpial to chirp without crashing every now and then!
- sudo add-apt-repository ppa:effie-jayx/turpial-devel
- sudo apt-get update
- sudo apt-get install turpial
