MadsRH over on his awesome blog has just written about ‘Simple Scan’ – a new new scanning tool that Lucid will be getting, repalacing X-Sane.

‘Simple Scan’

Simple Scan will provide a new UI for users wanting to scan documents as the current default ‘XSane’ is both way to complex for simple use and doesn’t integrate into the Ubuntu desktop nor allow scanning from within applications.

DocumentScanning Proposed Interface

‘Simple Scan’ will address all of these and allow users to initiate scanning from various applications but those with so-called ‘advanced scanning needs’ will need to install an ‘a more advanced package’.

Download

You can already (!) try out simple-scan, but be aware that the application is “in progress’”.
