The GPD Pocket crowd-funding campaign has raised more than $1.2 million in under a week.
Before the weekend we asked you whether the GPD Pocket had enough momentum to pass the $1 million mark, having already hit $700,000 pledged in just 24 hours.
We needn’t have; as you can see in the screenshot above the GPD Pocket IndieGoGo campaign has now smashed through the $1 million milestone — and by considerable margin!
Who knew that a 7-inch touchscreen laptop evoking the look and feel of the (barely remembered) Sony Vaio P would prove so popular?

We won’t recap the full specs of the GPD Pocket as we’ve done so a couple of times already (see the link in the related story box for more).
‘Around 500 backers have opted to receive Ubuntu systems’
GPD initially sought a (comparatively modest) $200,000 to manufacture and ship the 7-inch ultra-mobile pocket PC, a successor of sorts to their previous crowdfunding success with an Android gaming device.
The new devices are available to back from $399 and are available with either Windows 10 or Ubuntu 16.04 LTS pre-loaded.
But although the campaign is continuing to attract new backers it seems that the Windows version is, thus far, proving the most popular. Of nearly 3,000 backers only 500 or so have opted to receive Ubuntu systems.
