smartfrenIndonesian telecoms carrier Smartfren has been confirmed as the newest member of Ubuntu’s Carrier Advisory Group (CAG).

The CAG is a forum for mobile operators to engage with Canonical on the direction and the development of Ubuntu Touch for mobile.

While a network from the Southeast Asian country had been mentioned as joining the group last week, the specific company was unknown.

But today the telecom provider has been named as Smartfren – Indonesia’s largest mobile internet provider.

Deputy CEO Richard Tan describes Ubuntu Touch as ‘an important option for Indonesia because it offers an attractive, flexible and differentiating solution for smartphones.’

Unnamed carriers from China, Australia and the USA have all recently joined the group, application to which closes at the end of this month.
