Chinese Ubuntu users will soon be able to find music from their favourite national artists straight from the Unity Dash.

Search support for China’s largest music download site, Baidu Music, has been been added to Ubuntu 13.04 and is likely to ship as default in the Chinese version of Ubuntu.

Baidu Music is the latest, but fully legal, iteration of the infamous music searching service served up by China’s biggest search engine. It succeeds the previously un-licensed ‘pirate search portal’ that trawled the web on behalf of searchers for illegal music downloads.

Downloads remain free to download or stream from the site for Chinese users but are now licensed from One-Stop China – the national representative of major international music labels like Universal and Sony.

But before any non-China based users get excited: this lens does not work outside of China.
