Professional video editor Lightworks – used to edit many Oscar-winning films and documentaries – is one step closer to its Linux release.

Visitors to this months NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) Show 2012 earlier this month would’ve had chance to see a pre-alpha build of the app running on Ubuntu at the Editshare – the company behind the software – stand.

The newly open-sourced tool was originally due for a neta release on Linux last November.

Of the preview at NAB 2012, Editshare’s James Richings said:

We’re delighted to be showing …Lightworks for Linux because it confirms our commitment to this amazing software and to making Lightworks the best NLE on the planet.

There’s an old adage which says ‘Good things come to those who wait’ – and in the case of Lightworks this seems to apply.
