Kubuntu has found a new funding partner in the form of Blue Systems.

The KDE-flavoured Ubuntu spin has been sponsored financially by Canonical until now. However, as we reported back in Feburary, this funding will cease at the end of the 12.04 development cycle.

Having gained blessing to seek a new financial partner, Kubuntu will be backed by Blue Systems for the 12.10 cycle.

‘With this new sponsorship we will have the independence to give the project new wings and take the excellent KDE Software to new audiences,’ writes Kubuntu’s lead developer Jonathan Riddell.

Blue System’s funding will be used in a number of ways, including paying for developers to attend important conferences and events – such as the Ubuntu Developer Summit.

Anyone fearing change need not fear either. ‘Kubuntu [will] follow the same successful formula as it has always had – community led, KDE focused, Ubuntu flavour,’ assures Riddell.
