Yesterday we took a look at one users ideal vision of Unity on smartphones and tablets – but what about Unity on the desktop?

The Unity interface has come such a long way in such a short space of time, and although Ubuntu 12.04 isn’t likely to see too many dramatic chances in how it looks, many folks are speculating on ideal future iterations regardless.

Such as Ubuntu user ‘musl1m’ who posted the following mock-up of ‘Unity 5.0’ on his DeviantArt page:

“Unity is the desktop shell Ubuntu has created for its computer operating system. This is what I hope to see it become. Ubuntu may be late to the transparency game but that doesn’t mean it can’t be the best at it. Let me know what you think.”

I love how fluid the connection between the Unity Launcher and panel looks, although I’m not sure how well it would remain looking once the Launcher was set to hide.

The Unity welcome screen window shadow is too harsh for my eyes, and although I appreciate the use of an “aubergine” coloured wallpaper, but perhaps a less contentious one could have been chosen for the mockup.

But either way – I can’t say i’d mind if this is how Unity ended up looking…
