Handy Skype plugin ‘Skype-Wrapper‘ is now available to install from its own PPA.

The tool helps to integrate popular VoIP client Skype with the Ubuntu desktop.

It places Skype into the Ubuntu Messaging Menu: –

It displays an unread message count on the Unity launcher icon, as well as displaying file transfer progress: –

It also uses Ubuntu’s native notification system to display various alerts, such as new messages and users coming or going offline: –

Install Skype Wrapper in Ubuntu

Skype-wrapper can be install in Ubuntu 10.10, 11.04 and 11.10 by adding the official PPA to your Software Sources.

To do this via the Terminal use the following two commands: –

  • sudo add-apt-repository ppa:skype-wrapper/ppa
  • sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install skype-wrapper
