Ubuntu 12.04 will focus on ‘polish, performance and predictability’ according to Ubuntu’s founder Mark Shuttleworth.
Writing on his personal blog, Shuttleworth lays out his vision for the 12.04 development cycle, which he says is ‘an opportunity to put perfection front and center.’

The full extent and shape of Ubuntu 12.04’s ‘refinement’ will be discussed at the upcoming Ubuntu Developer Summit in Orlando, Florida, later this month, but Shuttleworth says that ‘no major new infrastructure’ or ‘pieces [that] are not design complete’ by the end of the summit will be given focus during the coming 6 months.
“The theme for all of this work is one of continuous improvement” he writes.
“While there are some remaining areas we’d like to tweak the user experience, they will probably be put on hold so we can focus on polish, performance and predictability.
Other aims marked for attention during the coming cycle include smooth upgrading from Ubuntu 10.04 LTS to 12.04 LTS; improved power-user features; support for multiple monitors and, ‘first-class accessibility for those with special interaction needs’.
Ubuntu 12.04, due for the release April 2012, will be the next LTS (Long Term Support) release of Ubuntu and is by 3 years of support on the desktop and 5 years on the server.
