The latest version of lightweight desktop environment XFCE has been released, adding support for remote shares browsing, a rewritten desktop panel, and improved settings/file transfer dialogs.

The development of Xfce 4.8, which will be the default desktop in Xubuntu 11.04, has seen the project refactor much of its code to take advantage of new desktop frameworks and technologies that have emerged in intervening years.

You can take a short visual tour of the new features present in Xfce 4.8 @ xfce.org/about/tour
