Following on from the quick run-downs of Desktop Unity featured here on OMG! of late , a number of commenters have asked whether the Unity bar will be moveable – e.g. putting on the bottom like a traditional ‘dock’ or over to the right.
The answer is: no. Mark Shuttleworth explains why not: –
“I’m afraid the location of the Unity launcher is fixed by design. We want the launcher always close to the Ubuntu button.”
There’s no need to panic though. The launcher already supports an auto-hide function (although one would also love to see an intellihide option too) and users will be free, of course, to use Docky, AWN, aDesk Bar or an other form of dock alongisde the Unity launcher.
