Reader Vjjustin has written up an interesting little tutorial on creating a ‘wingpanel’-style panel using nothing more than the default GNOME panel.

Wingpanel is, for those unaware, a rainy-day project recently created by the elementary team with the aim of making a minimal and unobtrusive desktop panel.

It’s early days for the real thing (i.e. buggy) so ‘mimicking’ it is the saftest option for those smitten with the style.
