The latest stable release of ‘Transmission’, the popular torrent application, has landed in PPA for users to easily upgrade to.
Several noteworthy fixes come in the new release, including: -
- The blocklist URL is now user-configurable
- CPU speed improvements
- Uses less bandwidth in DHT messages
- Fix 2.10 build issue on uClibc systems
- Bug preventing system hibernation whilst the app was running has been fixed
You can read the full change log here.
Upgrading via the PPA is easy. First you need to add the Stable builds PPA to your Software Sources list.
This can be achieved two ways. The “easiest” for most is to use the following commands in a new Terminal session: -
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:transmissionbt/ppa
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install transmission
GUI-fans can use their favourite method. We recommend ‘IntroducePPA’ where by you only need to enter: -
then hit ‘Add’. You can then use the Update Manager to upgrade Transmission.
Thanks for the poke Piers!
