Banshee gets Jamendo support

While the core development team are busy working on core enhancements and ensuring a rock solid Banshee 2.0, new community extension developer dz0ny has provided initial Jamendo support.

I know this will please a number of OMG! Ubuntu! readers since the lack of Jamendo support always tends to be mentioned in the comment section for Banshee related articles, but fear no more, it is here.

Banshee meets Jamendo

To try this today on your machine:

First get the dependencies:

sudo apt-get build-dep banshee-community-extensions

Then get the current extensions from git using this command:

git clone git://gitorious.org/banshee-community-extensions/banshee-community-extensions.git

cd banshee-community-extensions

Followed by our old friends:

./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr --libdir=/usr/lib --disable-ampache && make (we currently have to disable the Ampache extension)

sudo make install (this will overwrite existing bce installs thus you are encouraged to uninstall any bce extensions installed via the Ubuntu repo before performing this step)

You will very likely have to be using Banshee 1.9.0 or current git for this to compile, users fearful of compilation by hand can wait till the 1.9.1 release of Banshee Community Extensions which will ship this much requested feature. This is release is expected to arrive along with Banshee 1.9.1 on December 15th and should become available in the usual PPAs shortly thereafter.

Welcome to the Banshee community dz0ny
