‘Ubuntu sunrise’ plymouth theme adds awe to boot time

Bored of the relatively plain default plymouth theme that Ubuntu ships with? You can easily sass it up with more themes – like this one, called ‘ubuntu sunrise, by dinin over on Gnome-look.

The theme can be found on GNOME-Look where a.deb file is provided for pain-free installation.

NOTE: If your current Plymouth theme is garbled you may want to follow Softpedia’s ‘fix’ @ http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-to-Fix-the-Big-and-Ugly-Plymouth-Logo-in-Ubuntu-10-04-140810.shtml (thanks Niels!)

Meh, don’t really care for Plymouth. I either get 640x480x16 display or just a blinking _. I don’t really care, I don’t look at the PC booting, it starts fast enough, and I don’t really care for the look of that theme.

I don’t use NVidia or ATI chipsets in this PC: I have a SiS Mirage 3+ integrated graphics chipset in this PC. And like I said, I could care less if Plymouth is broke.

Even then, I don’t play 3D games on this PC: That’s for the other PC. Even then, probably the most complex thing it got was Marathon.

i wonder: would this work on mint9? it should, shouldnt it?

Yes, Mint9 is just a derivative of Ubuntu, so it should work.

At the speed that Ubuntu boots on a good day, I don’t even notice the boot screens, perhaps if it became as easy to change Plymouth screens as it is to change wallpaper then I might try it.
