Sparkleshare hits Beta, adds easy-start guide

Sparkleshare – the open-source cloud storage (think Dropbox) alternative – has hit its first beta milestone.

Hylke Bons, Sparkleshare’s maintainer, had this to say about the release: -

“Aside from the usual bug fixes and behind the scenes work I mainly added features that increase productivity in the event logs. Not only does it look a lot prettier, each entry in an event log now has a clickable link for easy access to files. It refreshes automatically on new events as well. The Nautilus plugin now has the €œCopy Web Link€ context  menu item, which makes sharing links a whole lot easier.”

Usage

Aside from pushing out a beta release the team have finally produced some sterling user-friendly documentation on getting started with the application. Check out (no pun intended):

Why do people keep saying “no pun intended”? Not only does it make little sense in print (if you noticed the pun, they you had the opportunity to remove it. That you left it in anyway means you chose to include it, and hence it is as intended), but it’s useless and a much over-used expression that I really got tired of reading.

Yep, it won’t build on my Lucid because intltool (whatever that is) is too old. I’ll wait for a .deb :)

Sadly its mono all the way. Many good applications fail to get any traction because people wont touch mono.

Easy-start as in “this won’t build, we don’t test this in the current Ubuntu stable release”. #fail.
