OMG! gone silent in RSS? Oops. My fault.

Somewhere in our switch-over we seem to have mislaid 4000 RSS readers – and it’s my fault!

Whilst the majority of subscribers (over 13,000) are still receiving their feed as normal and do not need to change anything those that have found us, well, a bit quiet of late (most likely those using desktop-based reader) need to update their feeds to point to: -

  • http://omgubuntu.co.uk/feed

or

  • http://feeds.feedburner.com/d0od

This points to our feedburner feed which provides -full- length articles for reading in your reader of choice.

We recommend using Google Reader for web-based users or Liferea for those seeking a desktop client.

    It works fine for me in SeaMonkey 2.1 here. It’s set to the feedburner feed here.

      Fingers crossed that it’s just a hitch then!

        Well I added it when we were at blogger. During the move and my ISP’s DNS still didn’t update, I could get the feeds, but not the actual posts.

        Odd, but at least it worked!

        I wrote a temporary fix:

        @media screen and (max-width:480px) {
        #upper { display:none; }
        }

        ;)

    Thank you!!!!!!! I missed you guys on my reader account!

    Hey Joey I think there’s a bug on the site. When I come here the Home page doesn’t have the newest articles. Most of the time what I see is Danrabbit’s “file browser” idea on top. To see the newest posts I have to reload the page, sometimes more than once.

    • http://omgubuntu.co.uk/ d0od

      Still? Eurgh. We thought we’d fixed that, obviously not…

      Ctrl-F5 (in Chrome anyway) should get you the latest home page.

      It’s because the site’s caching setup is over-zealous, setting the web server (nginx, llighhtpd, apache) to tell browsers not to cache HTML pages should fix it.

    I would also add Feedly to the list of recommended web-based feed readers as I personally find it way better (and more stylish ;) ) than Google Reader and it fully supports omg articles – that means I never noticed any issues.

  • Paul Somebody

    I am using Feedly, which is based on Google Reader, but nevertheless I got the that problem too.

      Veeeery strange – I’ve never had any problems with Feedly and OMG!Ubuntu feeds… I’m using feed/http://feeds.feedburner.com/d0od as feed address – do you use that, too?

    I use the ‘Brief’ Firefox addon to read my feeds. Its the one addon preventing me from switching to Chrome.

    I’m using sparse reader on my Android phone as my hard drive just died on my Ubuntu laptop and I can only see summaries.

    Wow that is really an amazing amount of readers. Thanks for keeping up such a useful and fun blog.

    • woodfrog

      yep, google reader says 7.523 subscribers.

      • http://omgubuntu.co.uk/ d0od

        Ahh i never knew how many subscribed in google-reader specifically. That’s hell of a lot less than I would’ve guessed though! Half of our subscribers are using something else…

        *off to investigate what*
