Gorgeous Elementary Firefox skin is coming soon

Elementary fans longing for a Firefox theme to match do not have much long to wait.

The skin is the work of a Thomas ‘Seahorse Pip’ and looks every bit as sumptuous as you’d expect. The ‘home page’ button in the tab bar is particularly inspired and the look of tabs themselves, whilst Safari-esque, are undoubtedly a vast improvement on the ‘stock’ Firefox look under Elementary normally.
As soon as Thomas is ready to release the theme for wider use you’ll be the first to know.
For comparison here is Firefox under Elementary normally: -

Normal looks heaps better. No need to go back to the 80′s with the Apple look.

Pardon me; didn’t realise it was a post by Joey. All hail Steve, son of Job.

Oh lawdz! It looks amazing, even if it’s largely inspired by Safari. To be honest, even though the project seems to make things very Macish, it’s still doing so with class and style. It feels a lot cleaner than Aqua.

What is the point of looking like Mac. Isn’t Ubuntu to be meant, to be something of its own?

  • godofredo

    safari-ish. but clean and cool.

Oh dear, now that I swapped firefox for chrome, there comes this most awesome theme :(

Indeed. this theme looks like a better Safari clone than most of the Firefox themes that intend to clone Safari. Even Firefox for Mac doesn’t manage to blend as well with the Aqua look as this theme does.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a lot of the work that the Elementary Project is doing, I just wish they would shoot for a more distinctive look.

Because mac UIs tend to look damn slick, and linux is a super nice OS.
MacOS looks + Linux = Win (IMHO).
Why should it bother people anyway? This theme *isn’t* ubuntu. Your precious ubuntu/linux desktop will continue be whatever you wan’t it to be, and look like you want, right? As will mine :)

This is the Elementary theme, and has nothing to do with Ubuntu. On top of that, what’s wrong with using someone else’s ideas in your own design?

So let me get this straight: Mac OS (looks)+Linux (speed/stability)=Win(dows)? :p

i would avoid using Linux and speed in one sentence :D

        Really? Why?

I have Lucid 64-bit dual-booting with Windows 7 x64 on one laptop and MeeGo on another and it’s easily the fastest on both machines. Any recent version of Windows takes a minute at least to boot up and continues running tasks in the background for another few minutes after that. Seriously, put a CPU meter on the sidebar and see if it ever drops below 50% even when the computer is idle.

Ubuntu boots in ~20 seconds on both machines, is ready to use immediately after login (CPU usage is normally <4% within a few seconds) and it shuts down before you can count to 10 on either machine.

Why make Firefox look different to all the other gnome/kde apps by giving it totally different tabs and home button et cetra? It sticks out enough from gtk/qt apps as it is (imo).

Computers have been around such little time, research into user-interfaces and their affects on the user just haven’t been researched.

The theme looks great, and If it is Mac inspired that’s a good thing. Like the Step Pyramid directly inspired the Great Pyramid. In time, with freedom, users will shape the best way forward, not the way imposed on them.

Great theme, and a big thanks for contributing to the community.

The tabs are upside-down… This doesn’t make sense visually at ALL.
