Ambiance theme for… Sony Ericsson phones (!)

Owners of Sony Ericsson handsets (non-android, natch) who want to bring a little Ubuntu style to their mobile experience will -love- the following Ambiance theme designed specifically for that purpose.

Called 'Ubuse' (forgive the name, the author isn't English) the theme was made by a reader of Polish Ubuntu site 'BlogOLinuxUbuntu' and demonstrates, once again, how incredibly right the Ubuntu Design team have got it with the new 'Light' themes – people just can't get enough of them!

Sony Ericsson Ambiance Theme

The skin contains everything you need for a full Ambiance experience (bar the actual Lucid wallpaper, boo!) including splash-screen, humanity icons, panel theme, and orange style (?) panel icons.

    Great, just what i needed.

This top icons for battery and wlan look very cool. I think they should be in the ubuntu default theme. Icons in the panel orange and the text could stay white. just an idea.

Another question. Is there one version for symbian 5th edition phones?

    • Ellipsis18

I agree they are pretty cool icons but I think the design team got it right with monochrome and not drawing attention to the “notification area”.

    downloaded :)

  • Heya

Autor should have used Ubuntu font if that’s possible

This is certainly a candidate for worst font choice ever in a phone theme.

Luckily the theme doesn’t change the font. You have to set that yourself. I changed mine to Droid Sans. Looks pretty nice, though I wish I could lower the font size a bit.

I’ve downloaded the .zip file and extracted it on my desktop. But what am I supposed to do to apply all the files that are in the folders, including patches ? :/

If anyone could tell me how can I make it work, that would be very great ! Pleaaase !

    No one knows ? :( Seriously ? :(

Ok, I did not try this one, this is only translation from users comments. It looks like you need special application like Se Tool or A2uploader to apply all patches. But if you want only theme file than you can just copy it to ‘misc’ folder on your phone, disconnect it from pc and install by your phone. It work only for 240×320 px, so it won’t work on, for example k750i and any phone with lower screen resolution. I hope that’s useful. Good luck. ;)

Okay, I know exactly how it works for the .thm file. I did used it. But I also want the icons and the rest, I mean all the package can provide. I got a SE W910i. So the screen is 240X320 px. Is there any alternativ to A2uploader for Linux ? I don’t have any Windows computer :(.

And this is something I can’t help you with. Look for help on SE users forum, or try a2uploader by wine.

          • http://twitter.com/florian_monfort Monfort Florian

I’ve tried a2uploader by Wine, but it does not detect my phone :(

Okay then we are two people who need help ! :D

  • http://blastfromthepast.se/ Tommy Brunn

Tried this on my k530i and it looked like ass. Probably because it’s made for a higher resolution though. If I can muster up the strength to do actual work in Windows, I’ll make my own Ubuntu theme.

Sucks that there’s no well maintained application for Linux for accessing the phone filesystem though. I tried like 5 different applications before finding a combination that works (for your reference, that would be FAR + JDFlasher).
