Y’know, detractors aside, it has been a wee while since I last (t)wittered on about a Twitter app. So what’s new with Turpial, one of my favourite clients that is both light and feature-filled? I took the development 1.4.7 release for a spin and found lots to be impressed with.

Turpial: a native tweetdeck (almost!)
The above headline may be stretching it above but there are facets of Turpial that do indeed shine like a native Linux Tweetdeck. Better still the latest development build ramps up the similarity factor another notch.

Turpial, which supports a multi-column view, finally allows you to specify which streams show in which column and whilst you’re still restricted to a trio streams, finally being able to ditch the ‘Direct Message’ stream for something more useful (like my own tweet-stream!) is a nifty perk for power-tweeters out there.

Other new features present include: –

  • Identi.ca login
  • Friend name completion
  • No pesky ‘paste-a-code login’

The usual line-up of features are also present such as the ability to auto-shorten URLs via a service of your choice, manage following/unfollowing/your profile, uploading images to TwitPic etc and searching in-app, too.

The ‘Preferences’ menu affords users many options including tweet ‘fetch’ timings, ignore list & services configuration.
