Comments on: Ubuntu 10.10 Alpha 2 Released

My laptop, for some odd reason, doesn’t like ubuntu cd/dvd/usb’s from versions newer than 9.04. Every time I try to boot into ubuntu 10.04 or 10.10′s installer, I get “disabling irq #30″ and then “disabling irq #31″. It just makes me sad because I wanted to take this for a spin.

It is still very early in development for maverick, still more alphas, betas and rc’s to come yet.
Besides which, gnome 3 won’t be in maverick until there is an official release of some sort, which is a fair way off yet.

I agree, it needs to be streamlined and tidied up a bit.
Also, if using compiz, all those lines have shadows so there are even more lines.
The effect is nice but too much.

I would still like to know where this evolution express is :|

The look is much too busy and untidy at the top. For the general public to embrace this, those lines have got to go or only have a couple that remain. Everything else looks good.

When I startet die LiveCD i saw just the normal gnome 2.3..

Um, I didn’t spot it. I clicked the evolution launcher and got the exact same evolution as I get in a normal desktop install.
I have tried evolution express and this certainly aint it.
Also, I though chromium was supposed to be the default browser up until alpha 3 but it’s not there either.

True, True. I agree completely. The indicator applets definitely still need alot of work. Hover popups and Right Click ability being top of the list.

I believe Its only a matter of time tho. Then again, if Canonical has anything to do with it .. it may never happen ..

I prefer some visual feedback by a glimpse of an eye instead visual feedback that you have to clickety-click for.

Most likely the Seperate Rhythmbox Indicator will be removed. It wouldnt make much sense if it wasnt.

I like the idea of having your “sound” applications integrated into one applet like that.

I use a 64 bit host, but I have to revert to using a 32 bit guest because of that VT-x/AMD-V bug. 64 bit guests will work on a fresh install, but as soon as I upgrade Virtualbox they stop working altogether. I’ve tried every fix I can find, but nothing works.

once the sound indicator is fully functional the rhythmbox indicator will be disabled.

I only have problems when I throw Gnome-Shell or Unity on it. Other than that, I can always test Ubuntu on it with acceptable speed and Compiz enabled.

I noticed at WebUpd8 that there’s a seperate Rhythmbox indicator and the Rhythmbox integration in volume indicator. I don’t get the rationale behind that. It _is_ clutter. If this development stays the same, it becomes counterproductive, I think.

For some reason every virtualbox after 3.0.16 has hated any linux distro I’ve thrown at it. Even with 6 gigs of RAM they all run so slowly they’re unusable.
