Improve the look of Thumbnails In Nautilus (quick hack)

During the Lucid cycle default Ubuntu file-manager Nautilus added a thick white border around the display of file thumbnails. This, at the time, was considered an improvement by most but, several months on, many users have tired of this ‘sticker style’ effect.

The very ace Kyle Baker tipped us off to a neat little hack he devised for improving the look of said borders. Kiss goodbye to the white lines and say hello to a neat looking drop shadow…

How to Install

  1. wget http://a.imageshack.us/img135/8666/thumbnailframe.png
  2. sudo mv thumbnailframe.png /usr/share/pixmaps/nautilus/thumbnail_frame.png
  3. killall nautilus
