It’s been a while since we last mentioned the very awesome wallpaper-slideshow generator ‘CREBS‘ (CREate Background Slideshow).

“Crebs is a small Python/GTK application that allows you to quickly create wallpaper slideshows with many user-configurable settings. Once saved and set the slideshow wallpaper is stored in the standard Appearance Preferences window allowing for it to be easily used again or removed at a later date.”

Back then we were suitably impressed with the application, even dubbing it the ‘ultimate wallpaper slideshow app’ but we did have a few minor niggles with it which which mainly concerned the inability to set an images ‘display style’ (Zoom, Stretch, etc)

Paint me pleased to learn from CREBS‘ awesome developer that this feature is now available!

Experimental new feature

For the dangerous amongst you the latest release is also packing another feature, albeit buggy and hidden, that ‘automatically adjusts the default image duration to create a slideshow of a particular length’. Want your slideshow of 4 images to last for 2 hours? This feature will set each image to be displayed accordingly. (i.e. a change every 30mins).

image[7]The fact it’s hidden should warn you off trying it but should you so wish the feature can be enabled via gconf.

As with all the best things these days, CREBS is installable (and thus maintainable) via PPA. Open a terminal and enter the following lines: –

  • sudo add-apt-repository ppa:crebs/ppa
  • sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install crebs

Translators wanted

CREBS is already available in 11 languages (Czech, Welsh, German, English, Spanish, Italian, Lithuanian, Romanian, Russian, Turkish, Ukrainian) but needs your help in improving the ones it already has and adding more.
