Cardapio – the awesome alternative main menu applet we’ve championed here on OMG! for some time – has a hidden secret: you can use it via Docky!

How so? First check you’ve actually installed Cardapio (see here for that info) and then follow the following steps: –

  1. Open gconf-editor (ALT+F2 > gconf-editor)
  2. Navigate to /apps/docky-2/Docky/Items/DockyItem
  3. Double-click on ‘DockyItem’ in the sidebar
  4. Enter the following in the “value” field (sans quotes): ‘cardapio show-near-mouse’

Now close the gconf-editor window and click on Docky’s anchor icon to invoke the Cardapio menu!

The developer of Cardapio, tvst, does wish to note that “the first time you run the “show-near-mouse” command, if Cardapio is not loaded yet, it will take a few seconds to load the program into memory. From then on, there should be no such delay.”
