mrli2Ubuntu 10.10 will see the Meerkat rock out with a new Unified sound menu that allows users to “…easily change sound volume and control music playback.”

We’re a few weeks away from Alpha 2 but, finally, the more visual elements of the new-look sound menu have started to land, feet first, into Ubuntu 10.10 Alpha.

As with many changes due in Ubuntu 10.10 we’ll be tracking their progress and development over the next few months.

It’s easy to forget the hard-work that is put into developing elements like this once you’re using them daily and they’ve blended into the background – hopefully by seeing each incremental step, change and addition you’ll come to better appreciate them.

For reference here are the mock-ups for the Sound Menu in Ubuntu 10.10: –
