A PPA containing the early progress on Emesne2 has been made available for users wishing to try out the successor to the current Emesene 1.x releases.
The developers hope to make Emesene2 that little bit more distinctive by not only re-writing the app from scratch but throwing in bonus niceties such as jabber support, adium theme support, better multimedia support – you get the picture.

WARNING: It’s not anywhere near to be finished, it’s alpha-beta-gamma software quality, so keep your kittens away and do not install it if you’re not ready to mess with your messenger. Some have reported they lost their girlfriends and/or job while trying emesene, so, you’ve been warned.
Secondly remember that this is very, very early development software so don’t expect bells and whistles or webcams. With that all firmly stacked up in your mind here’s how to install it: –
- sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bjfs/ppa
- sudo apt-get remove emesene
- sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install emesene2
