Smart GTK theme is light, elegant & Fresh

Looking for a fresh light theme to brighten up your desktop? Say hello to Pr09studio's latest work: Smart GTK.

Smart GTK theme was designed with the new Ubuntu colour scheme in mind. As such, you can see from below that it works beautifully with the Ubuntu Mono-light icon set.

The theme has a tonne of custom touches including gradients on the menus, panel background, custom Metacity & it's own wallpaper.

There are a few issue to note with Smart GTK. The volume slider doesn't look pretty and GTK tabs have a unique look €“ but look like they're half finished to my eyes.

    Meh. I’ve seen better.

Personally I prefer Raleigh or MurrineTango as my GTK theme, but to each their own.

It looks nice if you just use the window borders with some other controls, say, Kin is what I’m using, and a custom panel background with Humanity icons.

I still don’t like the default icon set for the mono panel icons.. they’re just too chunky. They say the opposite of “Light” to me, I think the Humanity monochrome panel icons are a lot better.

Would someone be so kind as to help me get this working? Extracting into /usr/share/themes and going to install it from appearances gives me nothing to click on but empty folder. Using the .zip and I’m informed it’s not a valid theme folder. Dragging and dropping tells me the same thing. I swear, I must be missing something.

I love the wallpaper but Radience Osliner rocks to hard on my desktop.

I have yet to see any theme other than the default one work with the sound slider (okay, so it’s probably the sound slider that doesn’t work with anything else). it’s a damn shame.

You can style the volume slider using the below. That’s what I used in Unified – http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=121728

    widget “ido-offscreen-scale” style “your_style”

Extract the .zip folder you downloaded. Inside you’ll see a folder called ‘smart gtk’ – open the Appearance menu (System > Preferences > Appearance ), click the ‘theme’ tab at the top and then drag the folder onto the window. It’ll install!

To use the panel backgroundright click the panel you wish to change > properties > background > background image > select ‘panel_bg_24.png’.
