Flyback is an Apple ‘Time Machine’ style backup solution for Ubuntu. The developers state that “..Linux has almost all of the required technology already built in to recreate it.” As such Flyback doesn’t require pallets of extra packages to get going with the download itself being a mere 36.7KB!

Selective backup

Using Flyback allows users to run selective backups automatically, you set the time to backup and it does it on its’ own. You are able to backup your selected files/folder/etc to anyplace you like ” whether that is a networked hard-drive sat downstairs next to your mum or simply a folder within your ~/home folder where you shove everything ” the choice is yours. Users can also schedule multiple backups.
