I dont think you really understand nerdthinking. We like to know how things work :P Which is one very good reason to make it open source. And i think other people can come up with more :P

I just tried the login using my Launchpad ID, which has been used on ubuntuforums.org via OpenID. And I can confirm that ubuntuforums.org already has been synced and authenticated with my Ubuntu single sign in account!

The plan is that the Ubuntu SSO becomes a convenient means for logging into Ubuntu resources such as the store, wiki etc. Forums would be cool. :-)

When I think about “Single Sign On”, I think about OpenID. For a brief moment when I saw the headline, I thought that Canonical was launching their own OpenID server, which would have been amazing. Alas, this is just going to be One More Sign On ™.

not every piece of technology is going to be open sourced. unless its going to be community developed there is no reason to open source a piece of software.

ubuntuforums and canonical are two separate entities, unless canonical buys the owner of the forum dont expect them to incorporate it into the ubuntu service anytime soon.

I’d like to hear more about this. I’ve fully supported Canonical in the past, and even understand (although I disagree with) the decision to make the hosted portion of Ubuntu One closed source. But this just doesn’t make any sense to me–why close something as simple as a single-sign-on service?

Gnarly! I’d like to see them incorporate this into the other Ubuntu online services, the forums, brainstorm, Canonical shop if it isn’t already.

Albeit a bit more difficult, what about porting it to ubuntu forums and brainstorm?

One could also use the billing info to login to the Ubuntu shop (Forget it, apparently already done)
