Piracy Apps In Ubuntu – Updated!

Disc-lamer: – Not everyone will entirely agree with purposes the applications in the list below are used for. That’s not to say it is their sole purpose, but obviously their most likely.

We’re talking piracy, here, kids. Swashbuckling, eye-patch wearing, plank-walking, shiver-me-timbers piracy. Or as the western world are currently fighting for it to be termed: “Economic Terrorism”.

I can’t be held responsible for what you do with the following information because of something called free-will. However if you do decide to download some awesome music with it, don’t make it the freaking Jonas Brothers, k?

Google2Person
Version: 0.04.3

G2P is a tool, written entirely in Python, that helps you get the music you want. G2P opens a web browser and uses not-so-obvious Google searches to get the music you want.”

Essentially a tool to take the tedium out of certain searches and locate the music you want to download quicker. It currently searches three well-known upload servers – Megaupload, Rapidshare and one I’ve never heard of – Uploadjockey. You can also add your own providing you know the search command for that site (so no Mediafire, sob!)

To use: Enter your search term, choose a service to search and then BAM! The results load in your default browser. Simple.

Myspace Music Downloader
Version 0.1

Before you look stunned: Yes, MySpace does still exist! I know, i was shocked too.

If you’ve ever wanted to download a track from MySpace chances are you’ve either used an online ‘grabber’ site or recorded it via your soundcard. Well, why not be way more awesome than that and use an application! It’s what all the cool kids do.

To use MMD you whack in the profile ID of the bands MySpace page (the bit after myspace.com/) and click ‘Load Tracks’. The list will be populated with available tracks. You deselect those you don’t want, hit download and, well, that’s it!

This app is the impressive work of TimehAndGod on the UbuntuForums. Just so y’know!

Download

Download the .deb from here.

Installation
All dependencies will be automatically installed BAR ONE. Once you have installed the .deb you MUST run the following command in the terminal: -

  • sudo dlmsm -rtmpdump

See? That didn’t hurt! Now you can run the app from the Applications > Internet sub-menu.

Download YouTube Videos
We posted this tip before but as it’s so awesome, and we’re running out of quality examples, here it is again.

  1. Go to the YouTube page of the video you want to download in Firefox
  2. Let it load completely (be sure to select HQ/HD if you want best quality)
  3. Do NOT close the browser OR the page
  4. Open Nautilus and navigate to /tmp
  5. Drag the file named “Flash” (followed by letters and numbers) to your desktop and rename it.
  6. That’s it!

Tucan Download Manager
Tucan Download Manager makes downloading files from so-called “one-click” file hosting services a snap – particularly with the add-on captcha resolution, support for premium accounts and a huge selection of services.

You paste your download link into the download window, hit download and watch as your download magically begins. It may be a little slower than downloading directly, but boy does it take the hassle out of it.

Download Tucan Manager
You’ll find Tucan in the repos so either search for ‘tucan’ via Software Centre or type: -

  • sudo apt-get install tucan

You could also mention Tucan Manager. Great webhost download tool. Works for legal files, as well! :D And unlike jDownloader, doesn’t look like crap.

You can change Jdownloader visual style to “Light(GTK)” and it will look like your GTK theme, plus Jdownloader can manage a lot more servers, reboot your router, etc.

Thanks for that. Tucan serves me well, but I might give JDownloader another shot.

A nice little collection, although the first one can be done on jimmyr.com (great site) without the need of an install.

Sadly, the MP3-Files from MySpace are ony encoded with a bitrate of 96 kbps.

Just installed MMD. Works fine right up until I hit download, then nothing. It just sticks on download doing nothing. Anyone else have any similar experiences or possibly a fix?

for g2p, you just create your own command for a website, so if you want to use mediafire, you can just set that command as like d or something. I don’t think it matters what the command is…

the Youtube “trick” also works when using Chrome; at least it does for me. Maybe it’s the fact that I have it as my default browser.

  • Jordanwb

This may be usefull: To download files from Rapidshare and similar media upload sites, you can use a program called slimrat. Just google “slimrat” and it’s the first link.

You know Gnome has arrived when people are writing apps exclusively for piracy!

I have a rapishshare account and have definitely fiddled around with a lot of different download managers. I have to suggest the use of JDownloader. It works great, it has a scheduler, tons of sites, premium support and it all actually works. I’ve never used Tucan, but this one definitely works.

  • SiulYnot

Nice !!!! thankyou for the g2p!

check out a download accleleraor called fatrat! ACCELERATOR..tucan is slow…

Hmmm…. I was wondering where all those downloads were coming from. And you can add mediafire.com to the list of custom websites that you want to search, just select the add site function from the dropdown menu and select a letter for it (I choose d because m is already taken by megaupload)
